Finished work

I wanted everyone to be able to see Jackson's finished work of art that he made a few weeks ago. The SLCS Art Extravanagzaa is tomorrow, so expect more art related pics to come...

7 things...

Ok, so I got tagged with one of those 7 things no one knows about you chains. Typically I don't respond because its a waste of time, but I am feeling a little bored and nostalgic tonight so I thought it might be fun.

7. I wear weird socks. This might not be news to some of you, but when I wear socks I wear weird ones. When I was in high school I heard someone say one time that you should do whatever you can to make someone smile. I thought that was a litte lame, but later that day when I showed someone my fuzzy orange toe socks they smiled and right then and there I decided that I would make people smile with my socks. I know have dozens of pairs of random weird socks that I wear with pride, and I love to switch up my holidays and wear St. Patrick's Day socks at Christmas, etc.

6. I believe I still have an FBI file. When I was in high school, my best friend ran away from home after geting caught sneaking onto an air force base. Being that air force bases are federally monitered and that they thought she woud call me, the FBI bugged our phones and had military police following me for days. They even showed up at a choir concert!

5. I used to be obsessed with ALF! Yep, the little creature from the planet Melmack. Here's proof...that's me!

4. I once had a 250-lb pig living in my basement. As a kid my uncle stole a pig from a farmer and was then to chicken to take it back. It ended up living in our basement for about 6 months and grew big enough to eat 1,000 stryofoam cups and break open a helium tank. He also slept on top of the washing machine and once tried to eat me from the feet up.

3. My husband is 3 years younger than me, and we have been best friends since we were little kids. I really do mean little kids. I believe I was in the 5th grade when I met him, maybe even before that. I can say though that I am only 25 and I have already known my husband for over half of my life. And we have the best story in the world! Here is a picture of us not long after we met...

2. When I was 3 years old I fell and bit off the tip of my tongue. The doctors had to reattach it while I was still awake and told my parents that I would likely have a speech impediment for the majority of my life. Little did they know God had planned for me to never shut up!

1. I used to steal remote controls from hotels. It started in junior high and went into my junior year in high school. I don't really remember how it all started anymore, other than that someone dared me to do it. It eventually became a competition between some friends and I to see who had the most. I lost though, I think I only ended up with like 5 because I was afraid they were going to put me in jail or smoething!

making a bowl

So, my creative and energetic son has developed a fondness for art since starting kindergarten. This shouldn't surprise me except that this is the child who refused to even pick up a crayon or marker and draw mommy a picture during pre-school. But now Jackson has developed a love for art, he has a great personality when he draws and he is exploring new mediums all the time. He recently decided that he wanted to start sculpting and I had no real idea how to help reach that goal. What we figured out was really he wanted to be able to use the potters wheel and spin stuff around, but unfortunately most pllaces won't let a 6 year old come 'spin stuff' all day. My mom found a place in O'Fallon where Jack could go and create his own art, so we set off on a road trip. Jackson had had a pretty rough day at school and was definately in a weird mood so I really wasn't looking forward to it. When we got inside the building all I could imagine were these racks and racks of ceramics crashing to the ground, while my son looked at me and said. "but I didn't mean to", but it was better than I expected. Jackson actually got the chance to make his own piece of 'art'. He used the potters wheel to make an ice cream bowl that he later painted a glorious shade of teal. He also got the chance to create a sculpture which looked a bit like a monkey and a monster. Jackson named it 'Uncle Monkey' although he changed the name several times later as well. All in all he did end up having a really great time, and I was really excited to get the opportunity to share the experience with him. I'm so proud of his creativity and his energy and I just hope that he continues to be happy with himself and doesn't ever get scared do be an individual...

hmm...what to write

So, I've been thinking about this blog thing and about what it means and what I could do with it, and I have decided that I think I will use it for random musings about my life. You know, that random junk that floats around in your brain that you don't really say but you kinda wish people knew? Like, why do people jam the copier and then leave it for me to deal with. I mean, I get a 20 minute break for lunch and in that time I have to use the bathroom, eat something, talk with someone about something, deal with some sort of student issue and make copies. So, when I walk back to the copier and find that it has jammed and that someone has walked away from it, that kinda throws off my whole rhythm. Or how about this, why is that as soon as I start to get financially together, the economy goes to crap? Or how come I hate talking in front of adults, but have absolutely no issue corralling an entire room of 5th graders? These are just some of my ramblings, there will be more to come. enjoy!

Hello Friend

Hello, and welcome to my first blog! Well, maybe not my first (I do believe I have 2 random blogs floating around myspace), but maybe the first blog that served a purpose. Well, blogs don't really serve much of a purpose except to keep you filled in on things, so I guess this does serve its own odd purpose. Oh well...welcome to the random ramblings of my life.
